PeopleMeet the Director: Dr. Jacqueline El-Sayed, Director of CETL and Professor of Mechanical Engineering graduated from General Motors Institute in 1986 and has been on the faculty at Kettering University since 1996. Dr. El-Sayed earned her MSE (1989) and Ph.D. (1997) from the University of Missouri. Prior to her Kettering appointment, Jackie taught at the University of Missouri and Florida International University. Dr. El-Sayed's areas of expertise include manufacturing optimization using multi-objective, nonlinear techniques and nonlinear finite element analysis of metal forming, and multi-disciplinary team teaching and course development. In 2001, she was the Rodes Professor with Dr. Lucy King from Manufacturing Engineering, studying the use of multi-objective optimization techniques on automatic fixturing. In 2003, Jackie, Lucy and Tony Lin received an NSF grant entitled "Vertical and Horizontal Integration in Manufacturing Engineering", with a current budget of $425,106. Most recently, Jackie became a part of the Kettering Industrial Ecology Team (KIET) which is developing a multidisciplinary course in sustainable manufacturing. The KIET received support from NSF in 2005 in the amount of $100,000. Dr. El-Sayed was appointed by Governor Jennifer Granholm as commissioner for the Michigan Truck Safety Commission representing all four year colleges and universities.
